I designed The Dark West as a systems-focused action RPG, with an emphasis on building interconnected gameplay systems that support long-term player engagement. The project centers around combat, ability frameworks, and progression loops, with a strong focus on creating scalable and maintainable systems that can evolve over time.
I approached the design by combining combat responsiveness, player progression, and itemization into a cohesive experience, supported by data-driven systems that allow for rapid iteration and balancing.
Designed and implemented core gameplay systems including combat, abilities, and player progression
Built gameplay features directly in Unreal Engine using Blueprints and C++
Designed combat systems including targeting logic, hit detection, and movement-based abilities
Designed progression systems including player stats, upgrades, and difficulty scaling
Designed itemization systems including stat distribution, scaling, and reward loops
Created data-driven systems for gameplay tuning and balancing
Identified and resolved gameplay issues through debugging
Documented system logic, feature flows, and implementation details
